Growth and Characterization of LSCO Crystals

چکیده
This thesis is a study of how to grow the HTSC cuprate, La2−xSrxCuO4 (LSCO). The TravelingSolvent Floating-Zone (TSDZ) method was used to produce LSCO crystals. LCO was doped with Strontium, in order to produce LSCO, in the following amounts: x = 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05, 0.06, and 0.07. Measurements on the produced crystals have then been performed at Risø-DTU, Denmark and PSI, Switzerland. X-ray diffraction and neutron scattering were used to analyze the crystal structure, in order to determine the quality of the crystals. Several crystals were grown and analyzed by using the methods mentioned. Three of these crystals had single crytal structure. The thesis features a guide on how to grow single LSCO crystals with the use of strontium doping. Even though single crystals were grown, a more standardized method is yet to be developed if single crystals are to be grown more systematically.

متن کاملThermal conductivity of Pr1.3-xLa0.7CexCuO4 single crystals and signatures of stripes in an electron-doped cuprate.
It was recently demonstrated that the anisotropic phonon heat transport behavior is a good probe of the stripe formation in La(2-x)Sr(x)CuO(4) (LSCO) [Phys. Rev. B 67, 104503 (2003)]]. Using this probe, we examined an electron-doped cuprate Pr(1.3-x)La(0.7)Ce(x)CuO(4) (PLCCO) and found that essentially the same features as those in LSCO are observed. Moreover, the in-plane resistivity rho(ab) o...
متن کاملGrowth of wurtzite ZnO nanorods using different capping agents: Characterization, morphology, and investigation the catalytic activity in some oxindoles and indolyl organics
ZnO nanorods have been prepared through chemical deposition of Zn(OAc)2.2H2O by employing different capping agents, (PEG, MW=2000 and PEG, MW=5000). The fabricated catalyst was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and XRD pattern. The results show the one dimensional growth of ZnO nano-rods. The results show that capping agents can control the shape and growth of nano-size...
متن کاملCharge Transport Properties of Lightly-Doped Cuprates: Behavior of the Hall Coefficient
Behavior of ρab(T ) and RH(T ) is presented for LSCO and YBCO single crystals in the lightly hole-doped antiferromagnetic region, with an emphasis on the RH(T ) data. In both systems, RH is virtually constant at moderate temperatures and tends to increase at low temperatures. Since essentially the same behavior of ρab(T ) and RH(T ) is observed in both LSCO and YBCO, we discuss that the in-plan...
متن کاملNano-sized AlPO4-5 Crystals: Synthesis and characterization
Molecular sieves and zeolites are materials whose crystalline frameworks form nanometer or subnanometer pores. A variety of different crystal structures are known having a range of pore sizes. Because the pore sizes are usually smaller than 2 nm, they are classified as microporous materials. Synthesis of microporous materials is usually conducted by the high temperature treatment (80-200 °C) of...
